Ichi Oku Doors/一憶Doors

Sekishu Washi Museum/石州和紙会館

The exhibition at the Sekishu Washi Museum in Hamada, Shimane, Japan is my first public foray into sharing the story of Ichi Oku House and the family who once lived there.  The museum is dedicated to sharing the local Sekishu washi papermaking process, a UNESCO designated “Intangible Cultural Heritage,” and so I reprinted photographs of objects in Ichi Oku House on handmade washi paper and created collages on salvaged doors from another abandoned house in the area.

The Ichi Oku House project is being made possible by generous support from Creative Capital and the Asian Cultural Council.
